Enter and Exit Town Meeting

When you first come into town meeting you are greeted by a number of people who have books in front of them containing your name and address (and other information).   By name, you select the correct person and then give the address.  With that knowledge, you are then checked INTO town meeting.

To the RIGHT of your information is a Mass State generated bar-code with a specific citizens ID number which is based on your birthdate and name.  On entering the town meeting you would be checked in and then you would be SCANNED in via your citizen ID.

A working keypad would then be taken out of its container and bar-code SCANNED.  The bar-code of your citizen ID and the bar-code of the keypad would be tied together to allow the voting technology to do its job in a fast, secure and private manner.

When you leave the town meeting the  keypad is simply dropped into a box with the tellers and you leave.  At a later point in time an RFID scan will be automatically done on all the keypads to take inventory.  This is similar to what happens when you go through FAST-LANE on the Mass Pike.

If someone did take a keypad from the town meeting then this tied set of bar-code scans would not be unlocked and the town would know who had which keypad and would be able to send a letter to retrieve it.

This process would would allow an orderly exit from the town meeting which would also be fast.

No person would be allowed to enter or exit the town meeting voting system while a vote was taking place (as is also done today).

No person would be able to abuse the system by giving their keypad to another and then leaving.  When you leave, you must turn in your keypad.
